X's & O's 03:59
Everything broken gets better in time It just takes half of an X To form a straight line pointing outta here— So let’s make an exit, dear! The holes in our plan let the sunshine pour in It just takes half of an O To make U, to make C, O U C it then? Let’s get together, friend. Xs and Os Everything grows If you leave it alone. All that you’ve lost is a weight off your back; It just takes half of a zero To turn in your tracks And begin again. Lets start over as friends. Everything broken gets better in time. It just takes half of An X To form a straight line Pointing out of here.

Love Lets Go 04:08
love lets go there is a door, and there’s a window. there is a yes for every no. with our heart-shaped eyes and our hook-shaped hands it’s hard not to catch hold of beautiful things. but love lets go. these skies like skies; this skin, like skin. take a deep breath and begin again. say the world is just the world and i will think it so. love lets go. there's a door, and there’s a window. so many ways out; so many ways back home. love lets go.

I Forget Myself This stupid world Begins again Every stupid morning; Birds sing with the joy Of sorrow forgotten. The sun shines like yesterday Was just a dream of rain… …and I forget myself When I remember you; I forget my dreams, And they all come true; I forget my melancholy And happiness comes calling Like the stranger I’ve been looking for Since I met you. So good morning to the morning, And good night to the night. Hello to all the beauty That’s been hiding in plain sight. One last kiss on the soft lips of sorrow; Then happiness can follow me Like the stranger I’ve been acting like Since I met you.

Fireflies 04:12
fireflies this brief life electricity and silence a slow-pulsing magic we fireflies. soft yellow moon trails our shadows behind us ghosts pursuing ghosts we fireflies. building our futile bridges brick by brick into an endless sea brick by brick we raise together a monument to unrequited dreams. marking the miles of darkness lived through point by blind faithful point, point by point we traverse together this illuminated life. lit by our sorrows, we shine. this brief life uncertainty and courage a future as glorious starlight: we fireflies. lit by our sorrows, we shine.

Sileni 03:37
Sileni and the Smile Sileni is sitting and looking out the window of the room Where she’s been living; she’s been feeling all alone One eye wanders to the clock The other watches shadows emerging from, remerging with The dark. Sileni paints a smile on, makes it wide enough to swallow fear Wide enough (almost) to swallow all the origins of fear. She opens the door. Outside it is cold, cold enough to make her shiver. From a distance this could easily be mistaken for laughter. Sileni and the smile pass From pool of light to pool of light; There is freedom in all motion... Even when it’s flight. There is safety in numbers--Sileni is one. But her smile is her second, it harbours a secret Hints at a power much older than reason. The eyes are a window but the smile is a mirror, A magnet, a measuring stick And a mantra. Sileni is sitting and looking out the window of the room Where she’s been living; she’s been feeling all alone One eye wanders to the clock The other watches shadows emerging from, remerging with The dark.

Sink Into Me 06:49
sink into me sink into me tonight; you are warm and cling to me tightly as if i was safety in a stormy sea. i glide over you, but you sink into me. sink into me tonight; it is cold, and your breath shines like diamonds on a ring— each word a fading promise you make to someone else; still, you sink into me. i cannot remember my arms with you in their embrace. i do not know what i have lost but i miss it just the same. i would forgive you for anything, if only you were to blame. sink into me tonight; we are parts of a puzzle that may never be complete. we are scraps of a larger picture we cannot hope to see. still, you sink into me.

Every Song I've Written every word I type turns out to be the wrong one every knot I tie comes undone every song I've written is a hand waving for help every door i open leads in; not out. I only write in code when I don't know what I believe I keep talking so you won't leave every poem about you is really about me every wish I've ever made is an apology every song i've written is just a house of light and noise all my acts of kindness have been decoys. I keep talking so you won't leave

about

We went in to Grant Avenue in December 2010 intending to record a couple of high-quality demos to shop our songs around to labels.

We came out two days later with the bed tracks for almost this entire album. The only bed tracks from later sessions are Sink Into Me and I Forget Myself.

Just as importantly, we emerged with a distinct sense that we could do this all ourselves. We didn't need a contract with a label to make music. We just needed patience and moxy, of which we have plenty.

Life happened. We met a wonderful bassist. Orange McFarland added some great parts and some great energy.

We took a break while Marcy had a baby, and met wonderful little Liam. While Marcy was nesting, Jennifer and Tom did the artwork and design, and started tidying up the loose ends of the project.

We decided that--on not just a musical, but also a philosophical and spiritual level--Tom and Jennifer needed to sing more, so went back to add layers of vocal harmony. We can't imagine these songs without the sound of all three voices now that we hear them together.

And we learned the hard way that mixing 9 songs in two days is not a recipe for success. So we slowed down, ignored our (arbitrary and self-imposed) deadlines, and committed ourselves to enjoying the process instead of rushing towards the product. Autumn turned to winter, which turned again to spring. But that's what the seasons do. Nothing to get worried about.

And now here it is! Slow down and enjoy it!
